Psychodynamic and ACT psychotherapist Brewster Parsons with dark hair and a beard, wearing a rust-colored knitted sweater, standing outdoors with green foliage in the background.

Hi, I’m Brewster

My ideal clients are self-identified weirdos, outsiders, and black sheep. Perhaps that's neurodivergence, people breaking free from generational family patterns, or something else. I blend psychodynamic therapy, which looks at the past through an attachment lens, with ACT, which helps you make room for hard emotions WHILE moving toward your values. Together, we will explore why you do what you do, whether it's working for you, and, if not, how to make space for something different. I think of myself as a grandma: sometimes I’m the only person who cares enough to tell you the hard truth, but otherwise I'm like a warm hug.

I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families strengthen communication, navigate conflict, build healthier patterns, and develop emotional resilience and self-awareness. The bulk of my clinical background has been working with queer, neurodivergent, adolescent, and IDD individuals and families in institutional and community settings.

I’m a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and a current doctoral student in clinical psychology.

In-network with CenCal in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Telehealth throughout California.

How I Can Help

When something that used to work…stops working. A childhood caretaking strategy that now leads to burnout. A free-wheeling lifestyle that doesn’t fit with kids. A phobia that was once protective and is now limiting. I help you explore the current and past function of your behavior, thoughts, and feelings, thus creating space for behavioral freedom.

Who I work with: individuals, couples, and families, ages 13 and up.

How it works: a free 15-minute consult, then sessions by video from home. Evenings and weekends available.
